About the Event
Emotional labor means many things to many people. But, put simply, it's when someone feels the need to suppress their own emotions. ... At the time, Arlie described emotional labour as having to “induce or suppress feeling in order to sustain the outward countenance that produces the proper state of mind in others”.
We experience emotional labor everyday. But this term for African Americans carries an even greater historical context.
